What I Like

I always wanted to do a site that was dominated in black and white, but something eluded me...I think it was design skills ;-). In any case TMX pulls it off with powerful, big words.

I like it being black, white, and red all over. I like the big words. I live the big design. I like the flash. I like it.

What I Don't Like

Maybe it's late so I can't think straight., but this design just works for me.

Really liking this site. Strong, bold and intelligent design. Only dissappointing thing for me was that it doesn't fit horizontally at 800x600...

    > Only dissappointing thing for me was that it doesn't fit horizontally at 800x600... I was trying to find an aswer if it is time to design sites already for 1024 x 768 or not ... The truth is that over 50% of Internet users are usign 1024+ What do u think? Just to add ... I really love this site for its "newspaper" style design which is something uncommon :)

Well, in my opinion, over 50% is not that large of a number. Do you think it is acceptable to exclude 30% of the web? 40%? I personally would only make a move like this if I knew it would only affect say 3%-8%. Of course, I say this only if I were designing a business web site. My personal site may not be the best on 800x600. Great site, however. Love the bold look.

Home page doesn't fit 800 and falls apart at 1024. Interior pages again do not fit 800, but they do not fall apart at 1024.

Re: the 50% usage. I don't think the masses are ready for 1024. Here at work (public service, non computer oriented), people constantly reset monitors to 800x600 - including the newer LCDs with native 1024 resolution! I don't understand the reasoning, but do know I'll continue with my 800 width design practices.

i love the design - striking, bold and beautiful - it's almost a breath of fresh air the design is so appealing, i ended up reading quite a lot of the content and browsing through the many pages, great stuff

Chris wrote: "Do you think it is acceptable to exclude 30% of the web? 40%?" But do you really think screen resolution decisions are exclusionary? I mean, if there were code that simply wouldn't operate for even %20 of the potential users - I don't think anyone would champion its use - but with screen resolution what are we talking about here...losing a little bit of the side edges, or possibly a little side-scrolling? It's just not that big a deal to me, I guess.

Follow-up to comment #4: Comment #4 only applies to viewing the site with the latest version of Firefox and Windoows XP Pro. I can't attest to the stability of the site with other alternatives to IE and different operating systems. I must also say that this is the first site that I have seen that fails with Firefox but works wtih IE. Does anyone have any insight into why this site breaks when I view it with the latest Firefox and WIndows XP Pro?

This is GREAT! Everyone is trying so hard to be different and use "technology" to show off their skills, but nobody is going "back to basix." This is a kick-ass example of how to stay true to design and integrate the software WHERE IT MAKES SENSE. All of you other interactive designers should take some lessons from these guys. Advertising at its best on the web. I mean it. Copy and design, superb!
