I like this site, although its completely broken in IE. Looks great in the "real browsers" though. Offtopic: I like the design, but it is broken in IE as well. The box that contains the newest submissions on the home page is wider then the actual site.

Cool site, I spent qutie a bit of time on the "Quote of the day" thing (althoug I wish it wasn't so dang small). Why is the Live Search input box completely invisible? That's a little 2000-ish when people started using CSS to style inputs, which ultimately led to hard to find/use input areas.

I hate being critical of other's designs and art, but this looks a bit generic to me.

it looks fine in mozilla, but in ie it just looks horrible. seems like there have been a handful of sites featured that have these issues which makes me wonder if there are any requirements for these sites that are supposed to focus on the issue of accessibility. as an aside, i think it lacks visual attention at the header. it seems as though the design starts in the middle of a thought instead of the beginning. because of that, i was never drawn in.

eek! Maybe I'm getting older and my eyesight isn't what it use to be. The combination of the harsh contrast between the white foreground and the black background along with the tiny copy makes my brain hurt. What's up with the #E1 on a #F1 background for the "TOP OF PAGE" and "NEXT POST" heading? Does he not want anyone to see it? ORIGINALITY: 4/10 READABILITY: 3/10 BROWSER COMPATABILITY: 5/10 I have a hard time believing this guy did the work on redcrossatlanta.org. That's a great site. It looks like the design efforts go to his commissioned work. On a side note, cssvault's new design has some similar contrast problems. The links tag #99CA3C on #C0 (comments-body gray) is very difficult to read at xx-small. I personally don't like this trend of tiny text and low contrast.

it's not a bad site but it doesn't strike me as being original in any way. it's also very difficult to read some of the text at the bottom, although perhaps that was the creator's intention?

It's probably the fact that there's an XML prolog there. Or at least, that's my guess. It's throwing IE into quirks mode and that's probably the source of at least some of the problems.

Great comments everyone. It's interesting to see the polarizing effect this design has on people. The IE display issue is probably a five minute fix, but I have my reasons for not caring. You never know, I could be booby-trapping the site for IE - why should IE users switch if we keep designing sites that work in their browser?! I'm kidding, of course (sort of). I'll probably fix the rendering issue once Symphony goes GM. Regarding the low contrast type - I have always "gotten in trouble" for using what could be termed "extreme" subtlety, but I do try to avoid using low contrast for the "important stuff". I will admit that from a usability standpoint, there are some serious issues with the site that I could (and perhaps should) address, but at the end of the day the site is an ongoing experiment in design and development. It's running on a beta CMS engine that has kept me from doing a lot of the things I'd like to do, but it's progressing as time permits. I enjoy seeing the good and the bad reviews of the site as it's a way to tap into the results of my experiments. In fact, I can see the subtlety experiment has failed once again and I'll be adding a little more contrast in the future. I admit that it's a weakness to put your personal design preferences ahead of usability, but I'm working on that.
