What I Like

I will probably get flamed for this one since it's mostly a Flash site, but bear with me.

Initially I was going to put the navigation under the What I Don't Like section, but then I figured it was a good design choice because it keep the emphasis on the photography.

The background is mad slick and everything else does a wondeful job of complementing the main point of the site – the photography.

Also like the typography of the header images.

What I Don't Like

This site pretty much serves its purpose. Possibly a better navigation scheme could've been thought up without taking away from the content.

    Nice look overall. The flash photogallery is really hot, but that menu doesn't do it for me. I don't like dropdowns unless I'm filling out an online form.

    I like the site and the navigation doesn't bother me BUT it is not accessible as it requires javascript. This can be remedied by the addition of a a submit/go button hidden with the noscript element.

    I like the simplicity of the site. I find photo galleries like this (e.g., featuring views of places, particularly interesting cities) fascinating, so I'm grateful that design, in tried and true fashion, is given over to showcasing them, rather than obfucating them and the point of the site with pointless fripperies. I can see how it might have been reasoned that the navigation fits this goal with by being discrete, but I agree with the majority opinion that it needs changing, for accessibility and usability reasons. Using a dropdown in this way hides from view the actual pages that you can navigate to. "Navigation" isn't itself a destination. True, only a click is required to pull the options down, but still, it's nice to have the destination options upfront. It wouldn't be so much of an issue if click-throughs weren't activated by merely selecting an item. (Joe Clark writes about this). There's no room for mistaken selections. Including a 'submit'/'go' button besides the dropdown box would allow a change of mind before heading of to another page. I don't mean to be too critical of the site overall, because I like it (predictably enough). I just think the navigation needs a rethink.

    I don't like how in Safari, I have to scroll down to see the photos/navigation, etc just by navigating to a new page. There doesn't have to be so much space up top, and seeing that it's a photography site it would be cool to see the whole photo on an initial load.

    nice i like the overlayed type... but the select menu interface is unaccessible - it wouldnt be very hard to do this in dhtml to achieve the same effect

    Does this site need Flash? I don't think so, just a small flash button on home page, and a canvas like on photo albums. Plain HTML will do it, IMHO. Also, I don't like the grey bottom area (whitout it scroll on 1024 x 768 will dissapear). Nice colors and background.
