Jarrod did with his site, the three columns are used to great effect. The colors and typography of the homepage are top notch and there really isn't much more that can be said about it. To put it lightly, Doug killed it. That's a good thing. And the imagery...wow.

What I Don't Like

With each section comes a new design. Each design on its own is Vault material, but I can see how it would be disconcerting to users seeing a different template (not just a different color) for each section. Also the top nav is not even noticeable unless you really look for it.

What I Like

He has taken Stopdesign away from its blog roots to more of a company site, but one that has a personality all of its own. Like Jarrod did with his site, the three columns are used to great effect. The colors and typography of the homepage are top notch and there really isn't much more that can be said about it. To put it lightly, Doug killed it. That's a good thing. And the imagery...wow.

Well damn... Now there's so many color schemes that will be attributed to Bowman... I had some of those in mind, too. :( Just kidding! It really does look great, awesome even, especially the "See Also" section.

I agree with your comment about the very top navigation. When I scan for navigation elements, I usually start at the body and move up or to the side. As my eyes hit the masthead and logo, I think "header" and don't look any higher unless I'm making a concious effort to do so.

I agree that the different sections could be viewed as confusing to a general web user, but Stopdesigns main audience are not general users. they are people like us, looking for web design tips, and potential clients looking for a good portfolio. By producing his site like this, he has, in a way, been able to show off many different sites, all wrapped up in one. This will go a long way to show potential clients what he can do. And as for us geeks, I dont think we are going to get confused. All in all, desipte is A list status, I am quite liking this site. I tend to be a bit criticle of A List redesigns, but this and the Blogger redesign, really put Mr Stopdesign on the top.

"To put it lightly, Dave killed it." Who's Dave? :) I always thought that Stopdesign was by Douglas Bowman. Anyway I quite like the new design. My only real caveat is that the "home" header is much larger than the headers in other sections, which can be jarring when navigating back and forth between sections. Also I like the three colums in "home," but the middle column with the main content feels somewhat constricted due to the fact that it's the smallest of the three. I honestly don't think the link list should be in a larger column than the log entries, but that's probably just me. Anyway, just my opinion.

The new site looks wonderfull, however I don't really understand the 2 way navigation and why some of the items are on top and some on the lower menu. Maybe the company type links are op top?? Although I think that Bowman did an excelent job on his own site in a short time, I also think its a bit overdone in the different sections to have a quite different color scheme.
