What I Like

The simplicity behind it. It's one thing to try your best to create a great looking site. It's another thing to go about it and make it minimal so that the content stands out and entices visitors to explore the site.

The color scheme sits really well with me.

Not necessarily one of those sites that will have everyone oooing and aahing, but I believe it is a great example of design.

What I Don't Like

Some of the text is really small.

Sorry, I just don't like the design of this at all. Perhaps it's that terrible salmon coupled with baby blue, or maybe those weird grandmas-old-wallpaper vertical stripes at the top and the bottom, but it just doens't do it for me. Also the text at the top really just feels out of place and off-center to me because of the odd lengths of sentences that leave it with no real shape.

The subhead paragraph: "smallTransport provides user-centered Web site and interface design, Flash animation/ActionScript programming and print design." breaks in all the wrong places. Breaking the ungainly sentence into logical, rather than arbitrary, lines will make it easier to read.

Contrary to some of the above comments, I found this design very creative, and the off-beat colors are somehow satistfying. The only complaint I have is that the designer didn't pour in enough of the -same- style into it. The navigation could have been seriously developed into something cool, and a few nifty interactive/hover/rollover effects would have made it much more interesting.

I also forgot to mention that the subsequent pages after the front are actually more interesting than the homepage. The resources page has good hovers and I liked the how the list of works are displayed.

Thank you all for your comments...though I too would like the site to be more visually inspiring, is has been quite productive in promoting my services as the site was indeed designed to cater to business. I couldn't agree more with the comments on the menu and am hacking away at some buttons for it. Keep an eye out over the next day or so or email me (via the site) and I will let you know when I update. As for the colors, I went out on a limb to do something calm yet different, which I think the palette accomplishes, though I do change the palette every month or so. Again, thank you all for your comments and for this excellent resource! Keep standards alive.

The design seems to have changed already...

While I like the simple design (not necessarily elementary), the menu with the white hover, seems a little less than thought out. Overall a nice design, perhaps a few tweaks and details here and there.

Your box links at the bottom are flickering on hover in IE6...simple fix by putting the same image as a background for the respective divs.

New design is out. What is the purpose of the main top banner photo? why chairs from a barber's shop?

Hey Will - the top banner photos are mine and serve to add energy to the layout (and present some of my photos). The chairs are actually in a great vegetarian restaurant I visited in Mexico City.
