What I Like
Liquid with skills and a great sense of design. For a quick rundown of what I like you can just go visit the site. That should be enough.
And now it has a Halloween theme (as of this writing).
What I Don't Like
Jason is way to vein as his name is plastered all over the site. That's just simply ridiculous if you ask me. :-P

Nice pun with vein, given the theme. Yeah, my head is huge... someone needs to give me a talkin' to.

Jim, everyone uses three squiggly lines for logo Ms, Ws, and Es. But that Maytag flash intro is great: stretched out, low-resolution graphics; and flying refrigerators. Lots of fun.

Very stylish site. I like the header-less page, it's eye catching, allows more room for content and also uses less bandwith (masthead is only 13k). Good use of a left border too. I like how the upper part with the name blends into the lower, cracked book spine part. Also, all the elements go together well especially the 40cents graphic. The 40 cents graphic really adds a nice touch to the pulp magazine look. One more thing, I think Jason's name adds to the page style as it has enhances the book theme. On a book the authors name is always on the spine and on the front cover in large type. I think it will help people to remember the site. On my site my name is in several places because I thought it would personalize it.

What Jason says about logos never being 100% original is true, just look at the number of companies using a swirl or an arrow, they're everywhere. The art is in doing it better than everyone else. The october edition is very cool.

I am not criticizing your artistic abilities. I am sure you're great at what you do... but come on... did you just flip the logo or something? And the swirl logos... are you trying to defend yourself by saying "Everyone is doing it..." Look, I am not trying to get into beef with you. I shared what I saw. Don't try to argue against the facts. It's your site, your business, not mine. When someone is giving you a critique on your art work, don't get all pissed off and get into fights, rather think what the man is trying to tell you.
Jim
When someone gives me a well-formed critique I will respond with respect. Merely saying I ripped off someone does not qualify as "critiquing" anything.

Actually Jim, I don't think Jason was trying to deflect your criticism. He was referring to your apparent crusade (or witless heckling) to disparage his logo and suggesting that once you've finally reduced him to the fraud we all know he is that you'll still have your work cut out for you--he's even been so kind as to provide a list of "offenders" to bring to justice. Just because the solution that Jason arrived at for his personal logo bears a passing similarity to the Maytag logo does not mean that he ripped it off. I think his logo is an appropriate, clever solution to presenting his initials as a tight graphical unit. He obviously didn't arbitrarily choose to skew 3 rectangles or "flip the logo or something" and call it a day. Since you're probably the type of person who claims that all songs by a particular performer sound the same (you can't be bothered to pay attention to details?) I'll spell it out for you: The first rectangle is the S (or even the J) and three together form the M (visually suggesting a connection between the first and last word of his last name). There's logic to the logo that's entirely unique from the Maytag logo. You can stand by your uninformed opinions and be regarded as an asshat-crackpot on a crusade or "rather think what the man is trying to tell you."

"You can stand by your uninformed opinions and be regarded as an asshat-crackpot on a crusade..." I take offense to that! lol Jason's site is terrific because it's not like every other design/blog out there right now. It takes all the page's space and elicit's terrific detail at every square pixel. And great dissection of the JSM logo Shaun. I just thought it looked nice. Imagine that there was actually thought behind it! ;)
