I didn't see anything special about this one - took quite a bit longer to load then most other sites. I think more whitespace is needed as the content seems too tight.

Type is really small, even when increased from FF's default size.

similar themes are acceptable and this site is hardly anything to complain about mat. i like the color scheme, very subtle and not in "in your face". jamie, i rather enjoy the backgrounds highlights. it gives it some originality and interest. aside from the validation issues you mentioned, overall, it's a good site.

Jamie, this is the first time I've ever felt the need to point out that a site reflects that of another. I think that this could be attributed to the fact that I was a fan of Jared's previous incarnation. Whilst there are a number of disparities between the two, I put this down to the lack of effort (or talent) on the behalf of this designer. There is no consideration to the details of typography (kerning, leading, size) or markup (images for headings) for a start. Oh, and I never suggested that this site was derived or 'ripped' from Jared's previous site. I just highlighted that it possesses similar qualities.

I agree with Jamie and think there is a lot of negativity here lately, and more than a bit of design snobbery. It also always seems that the negative commenters rarely leave a URL so we can check out their own credentials to see where they're coming from (or not coming from). Quasi-designer? What is that exactly? Whatever it is, lets not encourage it. My wife is an immensely talented songwriter who writes, sings, plays, records and produces her songs, but can't read or write a note of music. Does that make her a quasi-musician? And regarding the commenters in the vein of "it was better when Scrivs was around", I for one think the overall standard has been raised.

I agree with mat - Jared's last version of his site was what immediately sprung to mind when I looked at this.

I agree with Paul. That was my first impression and I had to rush to the comments to see if anyone had mentioned this yet. Naturally, they did.

Give me a break - the sites are similar in that they both use html and css. Anything else and you are simply looking too hard.

I can see some similarities, but the bulk of Aaron's design is all his own. I haven't sifted through the code, but it looks sharp to me! Good work! Lest we forget, I openly admit to taking inspiration from Airbag, Coudal, and Justwatchthesky. In my mind, there's nothing wrong with inspiring others.

First of all: a beautifull site, very nice. Secondly: I totally agree with Jared, george and others. If this would be a rippoff I better stop designing sites myself. Before I'm sentenced for life for all those 2 col fixed-width sites I made... I'm lucky there's still no line of lawyers lining up in front of my house ;)

I really like this site. It's different from most blogs and it's very elegant. Great job. I love it.

I like the top, and as Alex mentioned, quite elegant. The transition into the content area is also nice, with slick navigation. Reminds me of a somewhat corporate/christmassy look. Content fonts are fixed, and quite small. I also find Georgia to be hard to read, other than for headings of course. Overall however, warm and beautiful. Aaahh!

Im getting more inspiration from cssvault's new look than anything else, and the comments are enlightening.
