What I Like
Ed emailed me this redesign a good 14 days ago so I like the fact that it was able to stay in my inbox for that long :-)
Standard blog format, but nothing wrong with that because everything else is smoothly done. From the color scheme to the gradients. A site that won't amaze, but really there is nothing to complain about.
What I Don't Like
Lame complaint but I don't like the 3 color background. Two maybe, but not three.

I get very annoyed at sites that go beyond 800. The screen on my Powerbook is actually 1024, but I never maximize the browser window, so I end up having to scroll horizontally. Very irritating. A deal-breaker for me in most cases.

hate context menu!!!!! arghhh

I like the mouse-overs... More people should design for 800+ screens, 800x600 is like designing for captain caveman. Less than 30% is still using this res. You should look at what your audience is using...
Jeroen
On the other hand, on the IE5.5 that's installed here in school (screen size's 800x600), you cannot see left-most content, it's cut off, and for some reason (probably negative margins) you cannot scroll back there.
Jarek Piórkowski (http://unt.qviri.net)
at the counter its actually 39% of internet uses that has a reselution at 800x600 and 47% has a reselution at 1024x768. but pepole running a higher reselution tend to have more things activated which narrows the browser window..this could be the favorite window in IE for example. so thats always something you should have in mind :)
Mark
Jarek, you're correct, there's a negative left-margin. Also, I think he should have used borders instead of placing the border-lines in the background image, since they cut through the content if the screen-width is smaller than his design. I like the mouse-over drop-shadow background in the Portfolio section.

Hmm, to be honest I'm a bit dissapointed with this entry. It does at least 7 things off the top of my head that no web designer should ever do, also the design just isn't appealing to me.

I agree with everyone else on the 800x600 issue... I do however like the color theme and the layout... looks decent on 1024x768

nah i dont like the design either

I don't understand one thing. You indicate that your site is valid XHTML. But in fact, only the first page is validate. Please, don't insert this if your site is not enterly validate. It's a negativ point.

Hi, Appreciate the comments from everyone. I just felt like doing something a little different with this site. I knew that designing for screens over 800x600 would hit a nerve with a few people. Ultimately, as far as I know, the places still running 800x600 screens are schools and government organisations. I'm not expecting any of my potential clients to be found at either of these places. Almost all home and small business users will have bought their machines in the last ten years, which means they will probably be running 1024 or above.

Thanks Chanchan, just an oversight, fixed now.

I actually really like this design a lot, particularly the skyscraper-style image previews.

Page positioning is now fixed. It works in Safari, and does not lose any content off the left hand side on screens below 1024.

not valid xhtml at all, a valid site imo and others should be free of errors..

looks very similar to justwatchthesky.... are they affiliated?
Alex Giron (http://www.cssbeauty.com)
I was just gonna say that a lot of elements are hugely similar to Justwatchthesky. I think it goes a bit beyond nodes of inspiration.
Pierce (http://www.piercegleeson.com/auturgy/)
even the logo is lligned up the same as justwatchthesky..sad entry

I knew I'd seen it before, but I couldn't place it. Alex hit it on the head.
Damon
this isnt inspired, its pure plagarism
dave (http://www.nativeseo.com)
Too bad the design looks so much like Justwatchthesky, not very original.
Carsten
Wow, uh - why don't you do something unique? This site is simply a watered-down version of justwatchthesky. I really would like to see css designed sites do more than duplicate each other
henry
See Comments 19-24 ... First thing I thought, too.
Greg (http://www.polynia.net)
Quite nice, but I can see the similarity w/ justwatchthesky too... :/

Cant help but think of JustWatchTheSky

Any comments on the new nav?
Ed Merritt (http://www.edmerritt.com)
I do like the concept behind your new nav but some sort of indication that you should roll over that topgaphic for the nav would be nice. Or possibly have a different top grapic for each section to help make each section more distinct.
Louis (http://www.strangeentries.com)
I like the new nav a lot. I don't think it needs anything else. It's got the arrow on the navagation button to tell you. Unless you added that after what Louis said.
Pierce (http://www.piercegleeson.com/auturgy/)
yep, the nav label and arrow was a late addition.
