What I Like

I am pretty much embarrassed that it has taken me so long to get this site in the Vault. When I originally started the Vault I was pretty sure this site used tables, but it seems times have changed.

There isn't much that can be said about the incomparable Heather B. Armstrong and here design. One of the top writers in the blogosphere follows here writings with a crisp design that does well to match the personality of the content. This really is a case of letting the content dictate the design.

Not only does the content dictate the general layout, but it also dictates the look and feel of the site. It's legible. It's colorful. It's Dooce.

What I Don't Like

Silly nitpick, but the navigation could do without using images.

I think the squidfingers titled background image goes very well with the general color scheme. All looks good besides two things: The images on the navigational links are don't seem to suit the site's colors nor design. The grey background-color when you hover over links doesn't seem to be the right color. But, the header and footer are very becoming and appropiate. Kudos.

I LOVE Dooce.com! Far better reading than these design blogs. ;) Her masthead gallery is hilarious. I like the site a lot, but when I first found the site and looked through it, I got kind of lost in it's navagiation. I'm not neccessarily sure what section I am in, and even at some point I'm confused on the purpose or intent of some of the sections on there.

It figures though that Heater announces she is getting ready to launch a redesign. That is what I get for taking to so long.

    > Your fav icon is green, making it pink would > match the site nicely. I think this is because Heather changes her banners and background image regularly (every couple of months). Yes you should be embarrassed Scrivs! This is honestly the first blog I can ever remember reading. Ever. It was from a news link about her losing her job because of what she had written on her blog about her employer. Anyway keep up the good work on the vault and good to see props going to worthy sites, dooce.com really is a landmark site that has inspired many others and has had consistently good writing for quite a few years.

I agree with the above. Actually, Dooce is the blog that inspired me to begin my own blog. I mean if that girl can talk about poop and frame it in a great design and make me curious to read it everyday, than I can make a blog interesting too. I even started a web design course, because currently, my baby blog (only a few weeks old) is lacking in the design department. Go Dooce Go!
