I too like Lightview. I also like Thickbox for it’s ability to have other content than just images displayed in the same ‘overlay’ fashion - even Flash movies work.

Filesize is not a problem if you use compression.
Prototype and Scriptaculous combined are just 28k,
google for Protopacked.
